![]() ![]() I'm getting a 1:1 replacement for my 2012 Cheesegrater in terms of system drive size and RAM, but with a massive processing upgrade, and at my sweet spot price between $3000 and $3500. I'm only giving in at this point because an $800 discount off MSRP is worth it. ![]() The base model for the Ultra should have had at least a 2TB drive. My guess is that the 1TB Studios didn't sell very well because it's a ludicrous limitation for the target segment. The pro has been repositioned for the Pixars and Zimmers of the world, while the Studio is for us lowly small biz / prosumer creatives still slogging along in the mud. They certainly wouldn't discontinue it entirely and then update it later, and I doubt they'd discontinue it even if they announce a new Mac Pro at the upcoming WWDC the machines are now targeted at different segments. WRT the Mac Studio, I'd say an update is the most likely scenario. ![]() So this current deal is about as good as I'm likely to get for my personal value calculus. It doesn't give me the warm fuzzies and happy "I got a great new computer" feel that I used to get when picking up a new Mac.īut if I keep waiting for the right computer at the right price, I'll probably never get another Mac again. I don't like the practice - I'd rather them have the sales overlap the new product announcement so I could make an informed choice instead of a deal-driven sacrifice decision that will likely make me unhappy a few weeks later. That said, I agree with others that Apple's pattern over the last few years is to put a soon-to-be-updated device on sale just before an update or discontinuation. Click to expand.Anything anyone says about this is obviously conjecture until Apple itself says something. ![]()
